How to Turn on Notifications for Google Calendar
Modify Google Calendar notifications
To help remind you about upcoming events, you can get notifications on your phone, computer, or by email. You can change your notification settings for one event or multiple events.
Change your notification settings
You can can choose to:
- Edit your default notifications for both one-time and all-day events.
- Be notified with device notifications, emails, or both.
Change your notification settings
Changes you make on mobile devices sync with your computer notifications. For example, if you choose a "1 hour before" notification on your phone, you also get a pop-up notification on your computer 1 hour before your event.
- Open the Google Calendar app .
- In the top left, tap Menu .
- At the bottom, tap Settings .
- Select one of your calendars.
- Select Change, Remove, or Add a notification.
Important: Changes you make to notifications only apply to you. Others invited to the event get notifications based on their own settings.
Sound & vibrate settings
- Open the Google Calendar app .
- In the top left, tap Menu .
- At the bottom, tap Settings .
- Tap General.
- Scroll to the "Notifications" section and turn on "Notify on this device.".
- Tap Calendar notifications
- Select your notification, tone, and vibrate settings.
Tip: To change the tone for your notifications, turn off Use standard tone or tap Sound to select a new one.
For single events
Changes you make on your mobile device sync with your computer notifications. For example, if you choose a "1 hour before" notification on your phone, you also get a pop-up notification on your computer 1 hour before your event.
- Open the Google Calendar app .
- Open the event.
- Tap Edit.
- TapAdd another notification.
- Choose the type or timing of the notification and tap Done.
- To delete the previous notification, tap Remove.
- TapSave.

To turn off all notifications for Google Calendar, you can change your calendar's default settings. Because notifications sync between your mobile device and your computer, you can change your settings from either the app or a computer.
- Open the Google Calendar app .
- In the top left, tap Menu .

- Choose one of your calendars.
- Tap a notification and choose No notification. Repeat for each notification.
If you have multiple accounts or calendars, repeat these steps.

If you get duplicate notifications from a different calendar app on your device, follow these general directions to turn off notifications for the other calendar app. Directions for your device may be a bit different.
- Open the Settings app on your phone or tablet.
- Find the Apps or Application manager section. You may need to scroll down or go to a different page in settings.
- Select the calendar app you don't want notifications for.
- Find the Notifications section and adjust your settings.
Troubleshooting
Two notifications for the same event
You may get duplicate notifications if you have another calendar app installed on your device. Directions differ by each device, so use the following as a guideline:
- Open the Settings app on your phone or tablet.
- Find the Apps or Application manager section. You may need to scroll down or go to a different page in settings.
- Select the calendar app you don't want notifications for.
- Find the Notifications section and adjust your settings.
Not getting notifications
- Make sure to turn on notifications for your calendar and follow the directions in this article.
- Make sure sync works properly. Fix sync problems with the Google Calendar app.
Important: You won't get notifications for flights or reservations added by default from Gmail.
